

IEEE at National Institute of Technology Rourkela has emerged as a vibrant ecosystem of innovation, leadership, research excellence, and global collaboration through the successful establishment and continuous advancement of the IEEE Student Branch, IEEE IAS/PES Joint Chapter, IEEE IES Chapter, IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter (SBC65821), and associated technical communities. These initiatives collectively embody the core vision and mission of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers by fostering technological advancement for the benefit of humanity while empowering students, researchers, academicians, and industry professionals.
The establishment of the IEEE IAS/PES Joint Chapter under the IEEE Kolkata Section has significantly strengthened the culture of interdisciplinary research and industrial engagement in the domains of power systems, renewable energy, smart grids, industrial automation, electrical machines, and sustainable energy technologies.
Through continuous organization of IEEE-sponsored Short Term Courses (STCs), Faculty Development Programs (FDPs), technical workshops, and expert lectures, the chapter has successfully cultivated a healthy and intellectually stimulating learning environment that encourages curiosity-driven research and collaborative problem-solving. The IEEE IES Chapter and Student Branch have further expanded the technological horizon by promoting emerging areas such as industrial electronics, intelligent control systems, embedded systems, robotics, AI-driven industrial applications, and smart manufacturing technologies. These activities directly align with IEEE’s global agenda of accelerating innovation, enhancing industry-academia interaction, and preparing future-ready engineers capable of addressing real-world industrial and societal challenges.
The IEEE Student Branch at NIT Rourkela has consistently played a transformative role in nurturing leadership qualities, teamwork, professional ethics, and technical excellence among students. By actively engaging members in organizing national and international events, technical competitions, research symposiums, coding challenges, and collaborative projects, the branch has created a dynamic platform where young professionals develop confidence, communication abilities, managerial expertise, and global professional exposure.
A defining feature of these IEEE entities has been their unwavering commitment toward innovative teaching methodologies and competitive research outcomes. The chapters continuously motivate students and faculty members to participate in high-impact research activities, interdisciplinary innovation, and advanced technological development. This commitment is reflected in the successful organization of multiple IEEE PES-sponsored STCs/FDPs and the hosting of prestigious IEEE-sponsored international conferences in 2024, with another major international conference already scheduled for December 2026. These conferences serve as premier global platforms for researchers, academicians, industry experts, and students to present cutting-edge research contributions, exchange transformative ideas, and establish international collaborations.

IEEE PES High Performance Student Branch Chapter Award (HPSBCP 2024)
The IEEE PES High Performing Student Branch Chapter Program (HPSBCP) recognizes outstanding IEEE PES Student Branch Chapters for their active contributions and technical activities. Under HPSBCP-2024, our Student Branch Chapter (SBC65821; National Inst. of Tech-Rourkela, PE-31) was awarded a funding grant of USD 150 for excellent chapter performance and engagement.

IEEE PES High Performance Chapter Award (HPCP 2024-2025)
The IEEE PES High Performing Student Branch Chapter Program (HPCP) supports and recognizes active IEEE PES Student Branch Chapters based on their technical activities, member engagement, and chapter performance. Under HPSBCP-2024, our IAS/PES Joint Chapter Ch11091 received a funding grant of USD 950 in recognition of outstanding chapter performance and impactful activities.

IEEE R10 Kolkata Section Best Volunteer Award
Dr. Monalisa Pattnaik was honored with the prestigious IEEE R10 Kolkata Section Best Volunteer Award in recognition of her exceptional dedication, leadership, and outstanding contributions to IEEE activities and community engagement. Her achievement reflects a continued commitment to advancing innovation, collaboration, and professional excellence within the IEEE community.

IEEE PES High Performance Student Branch Chapter Award (HPSBCP 2024)
Dr. Monalisa Pattnaik, Former Chair of the IEEE IAS/PES Joint Chapter (CH11091), and Mr. Rasmiranjan Swain, Chair of the IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter (SBC65821), National Institute of Technology Rourkela, were awarded the prestigious Travel Grant to participate in the IEEE PES R10 Chapter Leaders Meet & Greet Program organized by the IEEE PES Student and Young Professionals Committee (PES SYP) at Hong Kong SAR, China. Their participation reflects the growing global recognition of IEEE activities and leadership contributions from NIT Rourkela within the Power & Energy community.
Further strengthening the global recognition of the chapter, the former Chair of the IEEE IAS/PES Joint Chapter and the current Chair of the IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter were honored with the prestigious International Travel Grant to attend the IEEE PES Region 10 Chapter Leaders Meet & Greet Program in Hong Kong, organized by IEEE PES SYP. This remarkable achievement highlights the chapter’s growing international visibility, impactful leadership, and strong contribution toward IEEE’s global technical community.
Continuing this momentum, a distinguished IEEE Distinguished Lecturer Program (DLP) was successfully conducted in March 2026 featuring eminent global experts including Dr. Kayan Sen and Dr. V. S. K. Murthy Balijepally as Chief Guests. Their participation provided invaluable insights into modern power engineering, transformer technologies, sustainable energy solutions, and global IEEE initiatives, inspiring students and researchers toward impactful technological innovation and professional excellence.

Five-Day Short Term Course on “Next-Gen Power Networks: AI & Real-Time Simulation for Microgrids and EVs”, conducted from 11–15 March 2026 at National Institute of Technology Rourkela Rourkela in hybrid mode.
The continuous organization of numerous IEEE-sponsored STCs, FDPs, Distinguished Lectures, technical seminars, and research-oriented events demonstrates the unwavering dedication of IEEE at NIT Rourkela toward creating an ecosystem of lifelong learning, research competitiveness, innovation-driven education, and international professional engagement.
